Photo Game Changers – Episode 17 – Jarusha Brown – Giving Back

Jarusha Brown chats with Jasser about how and why she founded the Downtown Eastside Women’s Portraits as well as what happened the time she locked her car, while running, with all her equipment in it just an hour before a wedding.

Jarusha Brown quote 3

BIO:Hi, I’m Jarusha Brown and I am a full time photographer who lives in beautiful Squamish, BC and has a studio in Vancouver, BC.

In high school I traded in my alto saxophone for an old Nikon film camera after convincing my family that I was never going to be the next Kenny G. Photography was a much better fit for me. After traveling and photographing in Southern Chile and Argentina in my early 20’s I decided to pursue photography as a means of exploring, meeting new people and as a creative, artistic outlet. I moved to Calgary, got a BFA in Photography at ACAD, graduated with the Board of Governor’s award, and established my business in 2005.

My loves are my partner Colin, traveling, adventuring in the mountains, and photographing people. Last year I founded the Downtown Eastside Women’s Portraits along with Vancouver photographers Amber Hughes and Jeanie Ow. It’s a twice-yearly free portrait session for the women of the Downtown Eastside and it’s pretty awesome!

And not to brag, I’m a recent recipient of the Alpha Wolf Award for wedding photography ;)
