Jeff Chang: Top 30 Under 30 in 2016

I grew up with a camera and found myself naturally drawn to landscape and candid photography. It wasn’t until I was in college that I realized I could take my love of photography and turn it into a career. On top of that, through art and photography I found my partner in life so really I owe a lot to photography!

Tell us what your one must-have piece of gear is and why:

My 35mm lens is the one piece of gear I have to have. It really makes you think and absorb the space around you and I find that it challenges me.

Tell us what your one must-have piece of software is and why:

Lightroom is the obvious one, but from day one it was actually OSX, when I switched to Apple 10 years ago it really changed everything. From iPhoto, Aperture, iMail and iCal, Apple really changed how I used a computer and how it was integrated into my life. As nerdy as it sounds, my life would be different without Apple.

What’s your advice for someone just starting out?

Other photographers in the industry are not your competition, they can be your biggest supporters, allies and friends. Don’t let a few nay-sayers put you off, reach out as much as you can and you’ll find that making strong relationships with other photographers can be your biggest asset.
